TUTORS

Tutors help students one on one in a subject, tutors can have more than one tutee, but it will always be one on one. They will teach specifically to the students and each student willbe appointed to the appropriate tutor.

AVA CALLESEN

Tutor

Ava Callesen is a current senior at Chandler Prep from Phoenix, Arizona. Throughout school, she has always enjoyed her math and science classes the most. She wishes to use this love of STEM towards her future in the medical field. Basketball, fitness, and volunteering have always been a large aspect of her life outside of academics. She is a part of Hugh O’Brian Youth Leadership and National Charity League, both of which have taught her to dream big and make an impact on the world. Through STEM Garden, she hopes to spark a love of these subjects in the minds of students and children everywhere!

REHAN FARISHTA

Tutor

My name is Rehan Farishta and I am a student at Cherry Creek High School. At Creek, I have been a part of Science Olympiad for the last 2 years and am planning on a 3rd. I’m also in FBLA and National Honor Society. I have a passion for the medical field and computer science. Outside of school, I have been playing baseball for 10 years. I am excited to be part of The Stem Garden and am a supporter of education for all!

NATALIE GONZALEZ

Tutor

Natalie Gonzalez is a tutor from Florida and currently a junior in high school. She has always had a natural inclination to science and math and is involved in the Science Olympiad Team in her school where she enjoys building and biology events the most. She is also an advocate for minimum waste living around her communities, encouraging individuals to pursue a life with as little single-use plastics as possible. She is very passionate about STEM and STEM-based programs and hopes that she can inspire others to love it as much as she does in the STEM garden!

NAOMI HEGWOOD

Tutor

My name is Naomi, and I am a tutor from North Dakota. I am a rising Sophomore at Harvard and am planning on studying Integrative Biology. I love plants, art, and all things biology. On campus, I am a part of the Conservation Society, and I illustrate for the Crimson, a newspaper at Harvard. Currently, I am helping with research through North Dakota State University. In my spare time, I love to go on adventures with my friends, binge-watch Netflix, and hang out with my dog and guinea pig.

MARIA HERNE

Tutor

Hi, I'm Maria, and I am a tutor. I'm currently a junior in high school and a competitive swimmer. My favorite subjects are computer science and math. I first fell in love with computer science during a Kode With Klossy camp, and I want to empower students to make their dreams a reality through programming.

NICOLE JO

Tutor

Nicole Jo is a rising senior at Phillips Academy in Andover, MA. At Andover, Nicole is the director of management of her school's DECA team. She is also working on a startup business She is interested in pursuing a career in business management or entrepreneurship to tackle social issues that she is passionate about. Outside of her academic and career-oriented work, Nicole is a graphic designer, actress, and a swimmer.

GLORIA LIM

Tutor

Gloria Lim is a tutor from Sydney, Australia and is currently in Year 11 in high school. She is currently participating in the IB diploma programme taking up both Math and Physics HL. She has always held an interest in STEM subjects, particularly in Science and Mathematics, and holds a passion in the field of medical science and hospitality. Apart from STEM, she is very passionate about education, wanting to be a teacher if she does not end up becoming a doctor. She is very excited about using STEM Garden as an opportunity to both share her passion for STEM subjects and helping others!

AIKO LOZAR

Tutor

Hi! I am a junior from California. I am the Head of Business for my school’s co-ed FTC team and the publicist for our SWENext Chapter. I have two passions: Storytelling and STEM. From a young age, I’ve wanted to be a storyteller, and with my founding of Student Production Club, I have been able to collaboratively write, direct, and produce two plays and one feature film. Otherwise, I love STEM, particularly physics and electronics. I’m so excited to work with everyone, and I can’t wait to help inspire people to be passionate about what I’m passionate about!

MOMINA NAUSHAB

Tutor

Hi! My name is Momina Naushab and I am a junior at Camas High School. I love running and am a part of the Cross Country team. I also compete in Science Olympiad and DECA at my high school. In my free time I like to run, bike, or go on a hike!

NHI NGUYEN

Tutor

Nhi is an intended-Neuroscience major at Dartmouth College. She is on the pre-med track with an interest to minor in Global Health. Currently, she is an intern in the Psychological and Brain Sciences Department as a member of the Women in Science Project. Through the STEM Garden, she hopes to tutor and foster interest in STEM for all students.

LAUREN OH

Tutor

Lauren Oh is a rising Junior at Mount Pisgah Christian School. She is very passionate about math, biology, and education. She is a part of the math team, music honor society, Health Sciences club, and varsity basketball team. Other than academics, she enjoys singing and listening to music. She is a member of the Georgia All-State honor chorus. She has experience in mentoring elementary school students for two years. She has attended parts of elementary, middle, and high school in both the United States and Korea, so she easily interacts with people and forms a comfortable learning environment with anyone including English learners.

SAHIL SONI

Tutor

Sahil Soni is a tutor from Illinois. He is a sophomore at Waubonsie Valley High School, and is a part of their varsity swim team. On top of that, he volunteers at Edward’s Hospital and other nonprofit educational programs in his area. He hopes to use his time at the hospital to learn about the medical field and eventually work there. Sahil has a passion for STEM and is eager to start teaching Math and Science.

VALERIE TRAN

Tutor

Valerie is a current junior in high school from Massachusetts. She participates in her school’s Science Olympiad team and Math Team, as well as the annual international show where she is a co-leader of the group that represents Korea. She is also heavily involved with her school’s band, where she is the section leader for the bass clarinets. She loves volunteering and helping people and has volunteered at a hospital and around her community through her school’s National Honors Society. Outside of school, she often dances for fun. Valerie loves science especially and hopes to major in biochemistry in college, continuing on to become a doctor one day. She is excited to work with students through the STEM Garden!

JUSTIN WISE

Tutor

Justin Wise is a sophomore at Harvard University studying Computer Science. He lives in Dallas, Texas, and graduated from TAG Magnet High School, where he participated in Destination Imagination: Project Outreach, a team competition where students solve a problem in their community and present their progress via skit. His team created Hidden History, a program for collecting oral histories from seniors, especially those living isolated in retirement homes. Justin also competed in various programming competitions, and he is now part of the tech team for Satire V, a digital publication at Harvard. He has experience teaching as a Red Cross certified Lifeguard Instructor. He enjoys biking, reading Sci-Fi novels, and hacking together random tech projects.

ISABELLA WARD

Tutor

Isabella Ward is a current junior at Haverhill High School in Massachusetts. She is in love with creative writing, as shown by her involvement in the school’s creative writing club and literary magazine, among other clubs like VIP (Violence Intervention and Prevention), gardening club, and Latin club. Outside of school, she loves to read (especially fantasy novels) and draw. Whenever she gets the chance, she also likes to participate in mathematical modeling competitions. She is also interested in astronomy, and hopes to eventually become an astrophysicist. Isabella loves STEM, and she is eager to share her passion with others through the STEM Garden!
